WAR/POLITICS: Communism Sucks

Yeah, you knew that already - if "sucks" is strong enough a word for the senseless death, imprisonment, torture, oppression and impoverishment of millions worldwide, not to mention an arms race, numerous wars and coups, etc. We had a grim reminder today of those horrors in the thousands incinerated in North Korea by a train collision, an event that was almost certainly caused by the endemic and frequently fatal incompetence of communist regimes.

Thankfully, we're down to just two hard-core Communist states (North Korea and Cuba), although nominally Communist China is still a tyranny and some shifty ex-Communists can still be found in power throughout the former Warsaw Pact. No thanks to John Kerry (seen here shaking hands with Sandanista dictator Daniel Ortega), who from his return from Vietnam all the way through the end of the Cold War never really got on board with the notion that it was a worthwhile endeavor to rid the world of this malignancy. Today's edition of OpinionJournal's Political Diary (worth every penny of the $3.95/month cost) gives some examples from Kerry's tour with the anti-war movement in the early seventies, the efforts that shot him to the political prominence on which his entire subsequent career has been founded:

Mr. Kerry may have to explain yet more dubious remarks from [1971] at West Virginia's Bethany College in which he declared: "Our democracy is a farce; it is not the best in the world." College newspaper accounts report Mr. Kerry also told students that "there is a disbelief in the American Dream, people are questioning if it is really a dream or if the dream still exists."

Mr. Kerry went on to tell his Bethany College audience that communism did not represent a threat to the United States. "The soldier went to Vietnam to defend the country from aggressive communism in the tradition of World War II," Mr. Kerry said. "But the soldier learned he was not fighting communism. Communism was not a threat to our country and the war was not moral."

NRO also has words with a Vietnam-era critic of Kerry's blithe use of false charges against American soldiers; it's a good read, and an important one. Kerry's conduct in the early 70s wasn't just irresponsible or impulsive youth; it was about the conscious use of sensational slanders to advance his own career at the expense of the national interest, and about patterns of thought and behavior about national security issues that have plagued his entire public career.

James Taranto today started one of his entries with:

“Yesterday was Earth Day, the environmentalist faux holiday observed every year on Lenin's birthday…”

A cheap shot, to be sure, but pretty funny.

Are you stupid? You seem to have hard time understanding that for the most part, countries that have called themself "Communist" are nothing but totalitarian regimes. We have yet to have a communist nation, for we have only had Communist ones. If you don't know the difference, then you're hardly even qualified to speak on the subject.

Communism is not an evil notion worthy of our efforts to destroy it, despite the indoctrination given to the American people to despise it. To say that communism is the cause of all of the worlds ills is absurd. It was just as much Americas fault as the Soviets. Marx and Engles were right about many things and the notion of a workers revolution in America is not that far fetched because of the vast difference in income among Americas classes. Fortunatly our government has checks and balences to keep Bush from turning facist just as it would keep an ultra left government from taking power. Communism is a much better government in theory than our republic but it has not been executed by a government that could make it work.

In the event that this is meant to be a serious critique, then my response is "Ya don't say! And this somehow disproves the Crank's post?"

In the event that this is meant to be sarcasm, then well-played.

Communism may not be the evil than that Americans are allegedly indoctrinated to hate, but it is a benefit to the lazy. Why would anyone work hard or even harder when it will make no difference to their particular situation? A difference in pay scale is what inspires people to work harder, achieve higer rank/responsibility/etc. "From each according to his ability to each according to his need" is nothing more than the lazy being held up by the hardworking. BS is what it is. Of course the the "capitalism" would be in government. Bigger, in control of all the money, and more corrupt than ever. Communism sure does sound like a workers paradise to me...

You americans are so stupid.
How could capitalism be good in any way?
It doesnt take a Ph.D in political science to see that everythign about it is wrong.
I can't wait til the day humanity finally outgrows capitalism and its incessant fascism.

tony you are full of so much shit. Capitalism is an economic system, fascism is a government. In fact, Fascism goes along more with socialism and communism.

Also, capitalism has the LEAST amount of government interfearance in its economy, but still has the little amount needed. Since you are an "anticapitalism" or "liberal aka Socialist or communist", I assume you are socialist or communist. Both don't work for shit. In fact to prove it, I'l write a paragraph on both saying why they don't work!

SOCIALISM- doesn't work in general. the liberals think it does but it doesn't for shit. Socialism eliminates competition in the economy and therefore eliminates ALL motivation to succeed in life, invent new technology, create good products for people to buy, and this slows the economy down tremendously. All socialism does is give the dumbasses who didn't try in life money that was earned for the people who worked hard at life. Its as simple as that. Government has a lot of political power.

COMMUNISM- communism has all of the problems with socialism but its worse. Communism is the result of socialism over time. Communism is supposed to have no government, but always ends up with the government having crazy and i mean crazy political power. It is impossible for a country to succeed without any type of government.

Hey, why don't you make a government called TONYISM and print out a billion dollars for everyone! no one is poor anymore!

Examples of fucked up socialist countries: Nazi Germany, USA under Hillary Clinton, Liberals in general. I couldn't think of any more socialist countries, but they always don't work as good as capatalist countries work.

Examples of fucked up communist countries: USSR, Cuba, US under Hillary Clinton, China, North Korea

There is a diagram that maps all of this called the government spectrum where the "left" and "right" come from:

(Left) COMMUNISM ---------->SOCIALISM----------->CAPITALISM

the best possible government is in between socialism and capitalism, 1/6 towards socialism, and 5/6 towards capitalism. You are right, a pure capitalism is an extremely harsh government but I will not agree with you on anything else.

And bush will not go fascist, you liberals are so stupid thinking that conservatives are fascists. We support a market economy with little govt interference, and conservatives support the constitution a lot, and we support CHECKS AND BALANCES, not fascism. I hate fascism, and Im a conservative.
