BASKETBALL: Athletes Out of Action

Slate has an interesting tribute to Athletes in Action, the traveling Christian basketball team that's being pushed to the brink of extinction by the NCAA.

The NCAA banned these exhibition games because colleges were playing AAU teams in return for funneling stars into their program. Rudy Gay is a prime example, where the Baltimore Ballers were created to play one game against UConn for a $50,000 payday. Gay goes to UConn.

AiA and the other "mercenary" squads are sad bystanders of this bending of the rules.
