BASEBALL: Please Be A Stranger

Curtis Edmonds follows up on the "25 least favorite" meme with his 25 least favorite Texas Rangers. Kenny Rogers makes yet another appearance.

UPDATE: Chris Lynch adds his 25 least favorite Red Sox. Rogers has never played for the Red Sox.

The Rangers' list is absurd! It's all their greatest players. Who's he kidding here: Sierra, A-Rod, Brown, Juan, Rogers, Soriano. Who makes the "favorites" list? Kevin Reimer & Dale Mohorcic? Seriously, other than Jenkins, Burroughs, Franco & Downing, this is pretty much every good player they've had.

Putting Gonzalez, Sierra, Brown, Rogers & A-Rod on this list would be like putting Strawberry & Gooden (for the "disappointment"), Seaver & Koos (because they each went on to succeed after they left the Mets), and Hernandez (cause he did blow in St. Louis and faded early).

Here was my contribution to Chris Lynch's Sox List...

I hate Duquette so much, he would earn a spot on my list. And so would McNamara.

Others to consider:

Bob Stanley - Big fat slob. Never liked him, and he somehow escapes all blame for what transpired in 1986, leaving Buckner and Schiraldi hung out to dry. His "palmballs" to the backstop set it in motion...

Carl Everett - Maniac. Gets points for Yankee-bashing, but that's about it. An impossible guy to like. His psychotic behavior ruined back-to-back Family Days, if I recall.

Jose Offerman - Definitely deserving.

Luis Rivera - Never did anything to me, but I just never liked him...

Carlos Baerga - I was dismayed when the Sox signed this balloon-headed, teary-eyed stiff.

Manny Alexander - Yuck.

Brian Daubach - Always seemed like a dick to me. And I believe he was also a scab.

The Corpse of Tony Clark - I guy I thought would do big things in Detroit, I predicted an Ortizian resurgence with the Sox. Not quite.

Heathcliff Slocumb - His trade value (netting Varitek and Lowe) almost gets him off the list. Almost.

Creighton Gubanich, Morgan Burkhart, Paxton Crawford, Vaughn Eshelman, Billy Jo Robidoux - Absolutely ridiculous names.

Brian Rose- Just struck me as a pussy.

John Wasdin - Incredibly, still serving them up...

Wil Cordero - Brett Myers' hero.

Mike Brumley - Never a fan of this Baastmaster-looking chump.

Carlos Quintana, Todd Benzinger - Take these two stiffs best season HR totals (11 and 13 respectively), combine them and it still falls short of Ortiz's first half this year. With the exception of Nick Esasky's one and done year, first base was a veritable graveyard between Buckner and Mo.

Jim Burton, Tony Armas, George Scott (the 2nd time around), No Hittin' Mark Whiten, Frank Tanana and Ugi Urbina. Don't hate Vuaghn Eschelman for his name...hate him for his 15-9 career record with a 6.08 ERA.

In my defense, this is my own personal list; I'm not claiming it as definitive for anybody except me. Having said that, sure, Juan Gone was a good player for the Rangers for awhile (two MVPs), Sierra held almost every team record when he got traded, and A-Rod's a HoFer. Fine. But just because someone's a good player doesn't make him a "favorite" player. I like Kevin Reimer. I love Rusty Greer. If you don't like that, tough.

I gave my reasons for liking who I like in the blog entry. Gonzalez came back, and when he came back, it was dreadful. Sierra wasn't ever anymore than just good, and he dogged it, and it was even worse when he came back, twice. And if anyone doesn't understand why I (and I am betting most Rangers fans) despise A-Rod, then that person just doesn't understand anything about baseball. Period.
