SCIENCE: To The Moon, and Not Back
A permanent moon base?
Hollywood may be right on time.
I'm not sure about the need for a moon base, but I am sure about the need for a permanent space station. Not the rickety shack being built now, but a real one, 22,300 miles up.
Since you referred to Heinlein, Crank, allow me to as well. "When you in Earth orbit, you are not halfway to the moon, you are halfway to anywhere."
