BASEBALL: The Diet Squad
Rototimes looks at who is coming in to camp slimmer.
The weight thing could cut both ways. If a pitcher had success at the higher weight losing a lot could affect his pitching motion. However, for the guys with a history of injuries maybe losing the weight will equal less stress on their body and less problems. Also, the guy should have included heights. 217 pounds is a lot at 5'11" but not at 6'5".
They say Dempster weighed 215 pounds last year?!? Yeah, right.
To paraphrase Bill James, makes you wonder what he'd have weighed if he put the other foot on the scale.
Wow, a lot of large weight losses on that list. I hope those guys are getting medical supervision when they're dumping 30-40 pounds over just a few months like that.
I hope he does a follow up column on who came to camp out of shape before they end up on my roto roster.
