BLOG: The Ultimate Beer Glass

Two-sport star Samuel Adams (hey, the slogan says "Brewer-Patriot") has unveiled the "ultimate beer glass." It's . . . shapely. Funny, I always thought the ultimate beer glass was defined as "a full one."

Two observations: it looks rather top heavy, the lip looks like dribble-city, and the design seems to be vaguely similar to the classic Coca-Cola shape. Okay, three observations. As to the third, only a patent attorney can assess the likelihood of a lawsuit.

Although still a huge fan of the tulip pint glass (preferably imperial pints of course) I applaud Sam Adams for being bold/snooty (your choice really) enough to reinvent the pint glass. Just like wine is served in various glassware (red, white, champagne flute) beer should have a wider variety of glassware. If you go to the right bars, they do sometimes have pilsner glasses, pints, chalices, steins, and flutes, they too often have a one size fits all policy. Granted the first thing that will happen is that instead of selling the 4 packs for 30 bucks, Sam Adams will pressure bars that carry Sam Adams to buy the glasses, and college students will steal them.
