POLITICS: The Pandagon Papers

Iowahawk's parody captures perfectly (and hilariously) the short and unhappy career of Pandagon's Amanda Marcotte as a blogger for John Edwards. This should not be rocket science: you can hire someone who writes the occasional pot-stirrer, as many bloggers do, but an unhinged, profanity-spewing lefty of the Marcotte variety is just not to be associated with a putatively serious public official.

UPDATE: Josh Trevino has a more serious take.

Remove the politics from this story and there are still some lessons to be learned. The last couple years I've seen a dozen stories about human resource departments reviewing MySpace, Facebook, etc for prospective hires. If folks want to be hired by respectable organizations don't leave a trail of ugly, racist, bigoted or obscene bs on the internet. I'm no prude, in 25 years in the Navy I heard a swear word or two and one or two may have escaped my lips, but I don't think I ever use swear words in written form. Something just seems wrong about it. Beyond that is the fact that use of profanity is really just a demonstration of a lack of vocabulary.

I doubt this will affect Edwards' presidential hopes. However, you can be sure every other campaign watched this episode and will be more careful about future hires.
