BASEBALL: Remorse
David Cone - much unlike others in ownership and union leadership - takes some responsibility for his role in preventing steroid testing.
Listened to him interviewed by Mike and the Dog (which you can get on podcast), and he said the same thing. He's really a very well spoken, interesting guy.
Good for Cone. Unlike a lot of athletes, he seems to have grown up from who he used to be back in his Mets days.
I had not heard about the owners putting steroid testing on the agenda in the early '90s.
This changes my opinion of the baseball drug cheating. I now put the full blame on the players union who evidently felt that dollars was worth more than the law and players health. Question: why are owners involved in drug cheating testing at all - why aren't the players doing it on their own with their own hired lab and disciplinary board?
