POLITICS: Air Huckey

If I had told you, 2 years ago, that a Republican candidate whose appeal is focused on Christian conservatives would become the darling of the Stewart/Colbert/Conan circuit...well, stranger things have happened in this election cycle, but not many.

I have to wonder what Huckabee's game is at this point. Does he really think he can force McCain into putting him on the ticket? Because as much as he's likeable and funny and appeals to a contituency that McCain needs credibility with, I don't think he'd be a good running mate for McCain, who given his age needs someone who seems like they could step in and be a credible Commander in Chief.

Huckabee as a running mate for McCain would destroy what upside McCain still has. If he wants a conservative running mate, he should choose a conservative politician, not a Christian populist.

Huckabee is a snake oil salesman. Sometimes I wonder if he's being secretly bankrolled by the Clinton campaign. I'm all for a big tent GOP, but these right wing bible thumpers are going to be the death of the party--there are a lot more electoral votes in the blue and purple states than there are in the die-hard red states.
