BASEBALL: "Apologize this retard"

Dan Graziano explains, in an item that needs to be read in its entirety, how his latest run-in with Carlos Delgado's agent, David Sloane, shows that Sloane is...um, not the most professional fellow. H/Tfrom a dumbstruck Cerrone. Damien Heath at MetsGeek had a much more extensive rundown of Sloane's follies back in 2005. A reminder that some agents may be super-PR savvy, but some are just the same crazy people that any practicing lawyer encounters from time to time.

Well, the reporter did egg the agent on (as the reporter admits), which isn't very professional behavior. Moreover, the reporter did get at least some of the facts wrong and will be running a correction. Overall not a banner day for either side to that exchange.

Wow, you not only have this obsession about Osama anymore, you extend this to second-hand blogs about agents?

Let's deal with this one thing at a time.

(1) 'His first e-mail to me came in at 11:58 a.m.'

Right there you blow everything. You took this person's word as fact. Try reading everything that follows - but consider that the emails were *not* from Sloane, but instead, were from someone a bit... less "professional".

(2) 'As I mentioned, I'd heard about Sloane being belligerent and unprofessional, so I smiled and wrote back.... Real classy and helpful. Thanks. If you can't tell me what I got wrong, I will assume I got it right and you're just living down to your reputation.... Yeah, I was egging him on, and maybe I shouldn't have, but I think what I wrote was pretty innocent, compared as you will see to where he ended up taking the conversation.'

Kettle, meet pot. Like I already said, this jerk was completely professional. NOT.

(3) 'His response this time was fairly civil....But in this case, the agent is obviously mentally ill....I won't hold my breath waiting for your apology."

Paraphrasing? Me? No more than this blogger did. And hey, at least I exposed a bias. Something like you and your fear of Osama. Or should that be you blinded love of all things Mets? Either way... a bias is a bias.

(4) 'Anyway, maybe I should have resisted, but I couldn't.'

No sense in stopping now. This guy had long since crossed a line. Remember, I'm still trusting that he was actually trading emails with Sloane, and that he harbored no bias, and most of all - he never crossed any lines.

Right.

(5) 'So's your Mom.'

Urm. Uh. That's it????

This whole thing was a setup to make me believe Sloane had nothing better in reply to a jerk like Graziano baiting him than to say THIS????

Okay Crank, let's say you are being sincere when you say you believe this. Cool. What exactly does this say about the Mets FO?

SO'S YOUR MOM? Oh. My. God. The asylum called the New York Mets have been overtaken by the inmates. They actually listened to an agent that sends nearly a half doen emails after midnight to some ego-centric blogger and the best that agent can do with this NON-PROFESSIONAL is retort with something less than "your momma wears arny boots".

Ouch Crank. You began to sound bitter when you realized a few months ago that your Republican candidate might actually face somebody you were scared of come this fall. But to fall for this tripe?

Shame on you.

A.S. - I have not defended Graziano here. He seems to have been deliberately baiting Sloane. That said, could you imagine yourself writing things like that to a reporter? I couldn't.

Dave - I have no idea what the point of your post is, but I confess to having a well-founded "fear of Osama".

Remember, Dave - Always break the pills in half.

Dave, what does any of that have to do with the Mets or the Mets' FO? It is a beat writer v agent dispute. Nobody comes away looking good, agent was egged on and reverted to form. And that reflects upon the organization how? What is the relationship that has you panting like Barbara Walters after a married man.

I think one of my eighth graders hacked into Sloane's e-mail account.

I would have tried to keep the e-mail chain going for as long as possible. Loonies are a lot of fun.
