POLITICS: Shaking Down The Taxpayers
Jay Tea on a fairly common tale from Newton, Mass.
Sounds like the Big Dig all over again. Will Mass. voters get annoyed enough to actually do something about it? I'd bet against it, but I always lose when I gamble, so maybe there's hope for sanity. This is a basic bread and butter issue that should appeal to Libs as well as Cons. The taxpayer should not be govenment's unending and bottomless ATM.
One of the only saving graces of California's tax situation is Proposition 13 which limited property tax inceases. It's probably the only break we get as the top income tax rate is 9% and the sales tax is 7.75% (and higher still with add-ons in various localities). Not sure what corporate tax is statewide, but I'd be stunned if it was competitive with Texas.
