MT ate my last post this morning, so let me just summarize:

*The Reds are on pace to strike out 1,298 batters this year. Four starters and five relievers are hanging around a batter per inning.

*The all-time record is 1,404 by the also-Dusty-Baker-managed 2003 Cubs. Hopefully, the Reds young pitchers will fare better over the long haul.

*The AL record is 1,266 by the 2001 Yankees.

As one who has watched or listened to nearly every Reds game, Dusty has done a fine job at keeping the pitch counts under control.

Of course, that is about the only thing he has done well.

You should have done this as a trivia contest. Who would have guessed the 2001 Yankees as the record holders for Ks in a season. Without looking, anyone care to guess who the K leader on the team was?

I would have guessed the 1976 Angels with smoke-throwers Ryan and Tanana. They had 588 combined Ks in 572.7 innings. The rest of the staff had 404 in 925.3 (an appalling 3.92 K/9 rate).
