POLITICS: Bizarro World

Who ever thought we'd live to see newspapers describe anyone as reaching out to Republicans by appointing...Hillary Clinton?

Meanwhile, expect some interesting questions for Eric Holder.

Obama just isn't going to be a Republican on foreign policy. So the question about him is whether he intends to be more like Bill Clinton, or more like Jimmy Carter. In that sense, the choice of Hillary is somewhat reassuring.

Great idea, Crank! The GOP should take every opportunity ot dredge up the Clinton Wars. The country just voted to do exactly that.

Perhaps we can offer questions for Cheney, Addington, Yoo and their ilk in the International Court of Justice if they are ever foolish enough to leave the United States.

Actually, I'm not so sure the country voted to reinstate the Clinton Administration, but, you know, if Dick Cheney gets a job requiring Senate confirmation in a future GOP Administration, I assume he will have to answer questions from Democratic Senators about his record.

Posted by: The Crank at November 25, 2008 1:30 AM

I think Dick Cheney is going to have opportunites to answer questions under oath well before then.

magrooder, apparently you didn't get the memo-the agiprop that the DNC/media have used to keep lefty simpletons in a perpetual state of agitiation for the last few years, will be null and void come January 20 when the Obama Admin. comes in and continues 95% of the policies that the Bush Admin. used to keep this country save from a terrorist attack for the last 7+ years.

See there are at least some adults in the Dem party who understand that now the safety and security of the American people is their direct responsibility they have to live in reality.

Its sort of fascinating that people like you never notice that the Dem party, who has been in control of Congress for the last 2 years, could have and would have launched all sorts of investigations into the Bush Admin. if even 1% of what you people allege was true. Why didn't they? Sort of interesting, huh? Its almost like maybe it was better for them to just keep alleging stuff to keep people like you all riled up.

Don't worry come January 20th it will be like the Clinton Admin when we had Project Carnivore and Echelon listening into every electronic transmission in the world and lefty simpletons had nothing to say, when we had terrorist renditions and the left had nothing to say and when we had a Dem admin. saying the same "lies" for 8 years that the Bush admin. supposedly created after 9/11.

"Earth to dch, Earth to dch."

Back here in the real world, there will be comprehensive truth commission hearings where the crimes against humanity commited by Cheney, Addington and their ilk will be aired as penance for our willingenss as a country to allow them to forfiet our honor.

Posted by: Magrooder at November 25, 2008 11:13 PM

And who, precisely, do you expect to hold such a commission?

Posted by: The Crank at November 25, 2008 11:18 PM

BTW Magrooder-and directly on point-Obama has now broken with the failed, unlawful, immoral defense polices of the Bush/Haliburton cabal by........keeping Bush's defense secretary on. Oops-why don't you go over to Huffington Post or Kos and find out how to spin that beeyatch.

Of course, Obambi is still blathering about closing Gitmo. If that happens, its just a matter of time before one of those "victims" of the Bush regime will be released and thenl take part in a plot that kills many Americans, but i am sure that the lefty talking point will be that there weren't terrorists initially but became terrorists only after being captured and interrogated by the Bush regime.

Posted by: dch at November 26, 2008 10:13 AM

dch, that's one possibility. What I see as more likely is that the Obama Administration will rely a lot more on the Clinton Administration's solution of using rendition to get detainees out of the jurisdiction of U.S. courts.

Obama may well be fool enough to just let these guys run wild, but I suspect in the end his instincts for political self-preservation will have a say in the matter.

Posted by: Crank at November 26, 2008 11:02 AM

You are probably right. The bottom line is that in the end after all this incessant psychotic yimmer/yammering from lefty screech monkeys for all these years-the war is going to be prosecuted basically as it would have been under Bush or Mc Cain and when it is all said and done the intelligence methods used by the Bush Admin. will also be used by Obama. Couple this with Obama now basically saying that raising taxes during a recession is not a good idea, maybe we will only have to go to the mattresses on a few things for the next 2 years, until, hopefully, we can make some major gains in the House and net a seat or two in the Senate.

A small point on the "truth commission" theme--

Where have they been undertaken, in some form or another, in modern history? Chile, Argentina, South Africa, Cambodia, Northern the top of my head.

Calling for a "truth commission" to look into American efforts to protect itself after 9-11 mocks the suffering, and attempts at justice, of people in Chile, Argentina, N Ireland, Cambodia, SA. Who dares assert the plight of Americans at the hand of their government post 9-11 bears any resemblence to what South Americans, South Africans, Catholics in the Six Counties and Cambodians have gone through?

Self-righteous moral vanity is a specialty of the American left, of course. The amusement derived from hearing American lefties in one instant call for the US to be a better global citizen and in the next insult people who have lived through real horror and tragedy at the hands of their own government is satisfying, but fleeting. And on Thanksgiving Day, it's no substitute for pride in the essential decency of one's fellow citizens.

Has there been a full moon? It seems the lunatics are running wild.

Gates. He had nothing to do with developing and implementing the crimes against humanity authorized by Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld. Keeping a competent person in a job irresspective of his party. No wonder the concept confuses you so.

Truth Commission. A bipartisan group (like the 9/11 commission, only with subpeona power) to disclose to the world the torture and assorted ancillary crimes; with apologies to Santyana, "those who refuse to confront the past, are condemned to repeat it."

Seamus, you complete moron (though I repeat myself), i am not referring to what our government did to our citizens, but what it did to everyone else.

But, in one sense you are right, I am thankful we have an intelligent adult about to take over the government and that Sarah, Todd, Bristol and the rest have slithered back under the rock from which they came.

Nice of our pal magrooder to reveal that he has no idea what "truth commissions" are, even if he doesn't quite realize it himself.

But then again, there's so much magrooder doesn't realize. For instance, he doesn't realize that he should avoid becoming the straw man his interlocutor has set up and knocked down. Doing so justifies the suspicion, and makes him look all the more foolish for committing an unforced error.

Since I'm feeling generous on this holiday eve, I'll enlighten him:

Above I mentioned the amusement derived from American lefties who express self-congratulatory moral sentiment in one breath, and in the next revel in cretinism, is fleeting. Arguably, I'd set up a straw man, since even magrooder had not put forward too strong a moral sentiment on this thread. But I had a feeling he's the type of fellow who might.

Yea and lo, we get an exquisitely hackneyed Santanyana quote from magrooder, followed by a gratuitous insult against a 17 year old girl.

Many thanks to magrooder for so plainly and pungently demonstrating the ignorance and depravity of the American left.

Ya' know, seamus, I guess I'm jus' a mave-rick.

According to wikipedia, "A truth commission or truth and reconciliation commission is a commission tasked with discovering and revealing past wrongdoing by a government, in the hope of resolving conflict left over from the past. They are, under various names, occasionally set up by states emerging from periods of internal unrest, civil war, or dictatorship."

Sounds like the shoe fits.

"Bizarro world" indeed.

Keep pissing off the liberals!!! (It's what is REALLY important to Conservatives. Nation, and it's citizens, be damned.)

Speaking of piss, watching this nation's good will circle 'round the drain the last 30 years (Thanks St. Ronnie) must remind Costanza of the time he pissed in the shower on "Seinfeld".
