POP CULTURE: The Best Sellers

Interesting list from Yahoo of the best-selling artists (by albums sold) of the decade. It says something about the state of rock that the top seven are two rappers, three country artists, Britney Spears and The Beatles, although there are still a handful of rock acts on the chart.

What comes after Decadence when a culture is on the skids?

The Beatles; great music, loved them as a teenager, but when I was a teenager in the '60's, we weren't all listening to Jelly Roll Morton.

It says more about modern rock, which sad to say is dominated by Creed and Nickelback. You couldn't pay me to listen to either of those bands. So far, my favorite albums of the 2000's were produced by U2, REM, Oasis and the Black Crowes - all bands of the 80's and 90's. Rock needs a new U2.

I love the old stuff but there some good new bands also. If you like the Beatles, try The Shins and Belle & Sebastian.
