POP CULTURE: When A Plan Comes Together
Well, we all have our ways of moving on from tragedy in our lives. If you're Liam Neeson, that entails....assembling the A-Team! Liam Neeson is in talks with movie bosses to star in the upcoming big screen version of The A Team. I pity the fool who's not excited about this. There's actually a good deal to be said for remaking something that was cheesy at the time and is now terribly dated; there's a lot more freedom. Of course, it could still be awful, as most Hollywood rehashes are. As for Neeson, well, I hope it's a fun movie to make, he could use that. Comments
The *obvious* choice for HM Murdock is Jim Carrey...but not sure he'd accept a lesser role like that. Liam Neeson as Hannibal? Meh. Surely they could do better than that. Too serious. Posted by: bs at June 9, 2009 8:21 PMWhat's interesting about Neeson, is that Schindler's list got him notice as a serious actor, but a lot of his career has had him in comic book roles: Dark Man, Batman Begins. Here's another comic book role. It would seem that he enjoys them. Posted by: soccer dad at June 10, 2009 10:10 AMThe premise lends itself to a pretty decent, lighthearted action film, as long as they don't try to hard to make a self-conscious spoof of the original show (in particular, they should avoid trying to mock the beyond-mockery Mr. T). He's got the perfect blend of clever and cheesey to pull it off. Hey if Starbuck can be a girl....why not? Posted by: Watchman at June 10, 2009 4:11 PMI can't see watching this. The original actors made it a good show to watch. I don't see that being replicated by Hollywood. The Dukes of Hazard had that quality as well, and I didn't see that movie either. Then again, if I had to choose between watching the A-Team or a movie with the word "wedding" in the title, I'd choose the A-Team hands down. Posted by: MVH at June 11, 2009 4:00 PM
