The chief of the New Orleans Police Department has stepped down. According to some reports, as many as 300 of New Orleans’ 1,750 cops went AWOL during Hurricane Katrina, and that’s before you discuss cops who joined the looting. A man can’t be proud of running a department that goes to pieces like that in a crisis, when it’s needed most. LA cop Jack Dunphy explains.

Officer Dunphy, your comments were right on target. I’ve been a member of the NOPD for 30 years and currrently run the Vice Crimes Section. I know both Lt. Savage and Henry Waller. Waller stated, “Anybody who knows me will tell you I’m not a coward”. I know him, he’s a coward!. Lt. Troy Savage should be commended. His comments were in the highest tradition of the New Orleans Police Department. Thanks for your input.
