  1. I’m no tennis expert. But I tend to think of Agassi, like Shaq, as a guy who eventually grew into his hype. At one time he was overrated, but eventually, he was as good as everyone said he was.

  2. I played a lot of tennis when I was younger, and played in some amateur tournaments. the hype had less to do with his ability, which was always considerable, and a lot to do with his hair. Even at the height if his earlier fame, he was polite, well spoken, and punctual (let me tell you, that is big time, most pro atheletes keep people waiting for hours).
After he stopped getting by on talent alone, and started to work out, his ability really showed. He was, and remains, one of the classiest players ever to walk onto a tennis court.

  3. I’m not a tennis fan. But as a sports fan, I have a dilettante’s interest in tennis.
I feel the way that Jerry & Daryl do. He seemed to be pretty much a hairdo & a wicked forehand back in the late 80s/early 90’s. But he really grew into one of the gentlemen of the game, a true crowd-pleaser.
To the degree that I followed men’s tennis for 15 minutes a year, I’ll miss him.
