Barry Bonds wants only the best legal representation – but only at a discount.
Of course, this begs the question of who is familiar with these negotiations that is blabbing them to the press.

It would be nice to have a little more verification than one guy saying it, but from what I’ve seen over the past 14 years, it is not inconsistent with Bonds’ public personna of being cheap. Of course, it is not as if I know the man either, so I only think he’s cheap because people around here who deal with him on a daily basis have gossiped that he is cheap.
What’s wrong with negotiating a fee? Especially when you have going for you that you’re a well known ballplayer and the lawyer will get huge publicity. I’m not saying Bonds is being totally reasonable in asking for a “steep” discount, whatever that is, but I wouldn’t say he’s being cheap, either.
