Personally, I don’t see how Obama can turn this around to the point of being able to win in the general election. I think the only real question is whether the superdelegates will feel that losing the election is less costly to the party in the long run than appearing to cheat him out of what he seems to have won.
When I saw the headline in my RSS, I thought, his average is a little low but he’s got plenty of RBIs, so what’s there to talk about?

Yeah, Crank, everybody knows GOP politicians hang out with religious nuts and visit places like Bob Jones U with no repercussions whatever. Why, the networks usually run the Bob Jones visit story after the Midwest flooding story and sometimes the print media doesn’t even cover it on page one!
You must address this ridiculously underserved story on your blog!
I know you’re nuts but if you think Graham’s anti-Semitism, Hagey’s crackpottedness, Robertson’s 9/11 BS or Haggard’s, ahem, indiscretions (and more to the point, his MASSIVE ties to Bush) have been as much a source or debate as Wright than you are even more far gone than we all suspect.
The question isn’t whether there are nuts among the religious people on the GOP side. It’s whether their presence costs the GOP votes or not. And especially in this cycle, with the relatively non-religious McCain atop the ticket, I’d say the answer to that is no.
You guys can’t be this clueless can you? We don’t know anything about Obama! How many times does this need to be said before you guys acknowledge that his associations are a legitimate concern? We have little else to judge him by.
And Wright is more than just a religious nut with a big mouth or an eye for a cleverly turned-out masseuse. He’s an anti-American bigot. And he’s not just a fund-raiser for Obama, he’s Obama’s spiritual advisor.
You guys are whistling past the graveyard here. The GOP carries all the baggage for every religious nut that ever opened his mouth anywhere ever. Fine, that’s our cross. But now that you guys have your own lunatic you want us all to look the other way.
You know, gays are a huge part of your Demographic Party and that costs you some support. When a conservative gets caught toe-tapping do we ask you what the big deal is? Do we complain toe-tapping conservatives get more than their share of attention? Hell no.
Every once in a while the finger you’ve been pointing pokes you in the eye. Man up, fellas.
Tempest in a teapot. He’s his own man. Much as y’all disassociate with the wingnuts that fill your side of the aisle be they religious loons or the endless pack of closet queens this is clearly what Obama has done at this point. If Bush can have political, and presumably spiritual advisors, who have done all manner of salacious and evil activities and walk away from them I suppose Obama can as well.
Uh, and as far as I can tell you do all bitch when the Haggards and Craigs, etc, etc., etc. get popped for their various 180s on their rhetoric and are called out for it.
As far as you can tell, eh? Listen, Sherlock, we could whine all day about the scrutiny of our toe-tappers and massuese-botherers and for all the good it would do we could shout down a well. I think you guys aren’t used to the level of media scrutiny we accept as given.
This isn’t about the moral failings of a supporter of a politician. This is the left-wing parallel of a GOP candidate attending Aryan Nation meetings for twenty years or taking spiritual advice from a Kleagle, like Byrd.
I don’t think you get to just kick this to the curb, and what’s more, if Obama is the Donk choice out of this duet of electoral cripples, we’ll shove Wright back into the spotlight. Count on it.
So if Obama is the Dem of choice, the GOP will shove fear mongering back into the spotlight.

You’re totally off the reservation my man. Waaaay off the reservation. Seriously, do you honestly believe that stuff? Are people who attended the churches of pedophiles the equivalent of conventioneers at a NAMBLA gathering? I could go on and on with examples of people who attend places of worship in which they themselves do not have 100% belief in what is being espoused.
If someone chose a church where the pastor was a pedophile, then no, it’s not a NAMBLA gathering.
If someone chose a church because the pastor was a pedophile who gave sermons about how great molesting children is, then yes, it’s a NAMBLA gathering and yes, it’s an issue.
In Obama’s autobiography he explains that hearing the “white folk’s greed causes a world in need” sermon is why he joined Rev. Wright’s church. Obama joined because it was the church of hate whitey. It’s not some coincidence that he liked the decor and the location and it happened to be the hate whitey church.

Uhhh… Capitalism is by and large dominated by white people, and has been for 50 years. And will likely change over the next 50(India, China). Capitalism favors those who work hard, and get lucky – but it causes a world of hurt.
How many millions are going hungry, worldwide, because of high grain prices, at least some of which is caused by WS speculation on futures?
I don’t fault at all a man who wants to provide for the poor, as a part of his church’s services, to see a problem with those who make it harder for him to do so.
Go do a google search for ‘dirt cookie’ and find out. Just because it’s a factual statement doesn’t make it untrue.
Second – Crank, you leave out the possibility that Rev. Wright saw this as an opportunity to supplant Jackson and Sharpton, who have not exactly done a wonderful job in the last 20 years.
That’s part of what I took away from his comments.

And Dave, that defense right there–that what Wright preaches, what Obama apparently agrees with, is true–that’s why Obama is going to lose and lose badly. We know you guys actually believe white people are responsible as a group for all sorts of evil. We know you believe that two wealthy Ivy League graduates were cheated of opportunity because they were sort of black.
We think it’s crap and we think most Americans would think that’s crap also. So we’re going to make sure most Americans get a good look at what you people think is true. It should be fun.
In a way, that may be your best defense of a guy who’s turning out to be a lousy candidate. No one’s buying the “never heard that” defense. The drawback is that “never heard that” only makes Obama out to be a fool. The “but it’s true” defense makes the Left as a whole out to be fools. I say roll with it!

Errr, no – all people are responsible for evil, especially as they get into power, no matter what color. That’s the part you don’t get, that this holds true in India, China, Africa and wherever else. That it is currently white makes no difference.

You mean most Americans who are now paying $3.50 for gas, making them less able to spend money on anything else? Yes, I’m sure they would object to greed causes need. Hang out at a gas station for a day doing some investigation, ask them if the prices are causing them problems, or anyone they know.
Even better – go back in another 2 years, when gas has potential to hit $6.
‘Sort of black’ – I think you should go and tell someone that they are only ‘sort of black’, and haven’t experienced the problems ‘real blacks’ face, you know, being seated in bad locations or people move away from them on the street, or any number of other things. Have fun with that.
I think you’re behind the times though – insulting Obama has moved past if he’s black enough, past Magic **, past the middle name, past if he’s a Muslim agent. Now it’s elitist, but there may be something new for you to learn soon.
