Nobody’s Too Far Left For Obama

Erick Erickson has a dynamite, exclusive and exhaustively researched post on the nature and history of the socialist New Party, whose endorsement Obama sought and received in his initial 1996 run for the Illinois State Senate. A must read. Make sure you follow as well the link to Rick Moran’s post.
Note that the website Moran links to, the Chicago Democratic Socialists of America, carried this charming endorsement for Obama for Congress in 2000:

Barak Obama is serving only his second term in the Illinois State Senate so he might be fairly charged with ambition, but the same might have be said of Bobby Rush when he ran against Congressman Charles Hayes. Obama also has put in time at the grass roots, working for five years as a community organizer in Harlem and in Chicago. When Obama participated in a 1996 UofC YDS Townhall Meeting on Economic Insecurity, much of what he had to say was well within the mainstream of European social democracy.

The more you look, the more you see.

  1. Rolls eyes. When Repubs like McCain stop openly seeking the religious nutjob and racist vote, perhaps then you will see Democrats refuse to accept support from the far left.

  2. When your eyes stop rolling please clarify the “racist” vote. Are you referring to Byrd-like racists or Wright-like racists?

  3. I just read that Jimmy Carter is going to endorse Obama, and will be a superdelegate for him. I thought Jimmy was holding out for Kim Il Sung.

  4. I’m not really bothered by that, unless he starts running on a New Party platform now. He’s still a wait-and-see candidate as far as I’m concerned.

  5. I’ll believe in Obama when he goes to the Senate this week and DEMANDS that Democrats don’t provide the telecoms with immunity (how does immunity benefit the citizens of the US?).
Until then, the verdict is out, and I maintain he’s just another middle-of-the-roader, too afraid of the real change the nation needs.
    Obama, far Left?
    If only.

  6. Abe, by “racist” I mean the 22% of Americans who wont vote for Obama because he’s black. See Rasmussen’s June 5 poll. Yannow, those folks that Republicans plan their “southern” strategy around for decades.

  7. “lawsuits-over-security”
    That’s cute.
I prefer “holding criminals accountable for their actions-over-trashing the Constitution of the United States”.
Remember when conservatives used to make believe they liked to hold people accountable for their actions?
    Seems like ages ago.
Don’t forget, Crank, the telecoms were breaking the law (or, in your parlance, “providing security”) before 9/11/2001.
How’d that security work out anyway?
