The annual year in review column, always a must-read. January alone contains the most concise summary ever of the Obama campaign, while May contains a concise summary of how John McCain spent the months between wrapping up the nomination and the end of the Democratic race.

What? No defense of Saltsman’s Barack the Magic Negro CD?
I’m with mbecker. The head of the party’s supposed to know better than to go there.
Kudos to becker for trashing Saltsmann but its only a halfassed criticism. He basically says its ok for Saltsman to have a few yuks behind closed doors about Barack the Magic Negro but when it goes public then it hurts the Republican’s electoral chances. I’d like for a conservative to just come out and say “this is offensive, and patently so”. It’s not about whether Saltsman has the right to sing the song to his heart’s content, its about whether on the merits its offensive to call the pres elect a magic negro. It only seems to bug the redstaters (not Erik mind you who thinks the parody is scintillatingly brilliant apparently) because it hurts their outreach efforts, not because they bristle at the content of the song. NO wonder you guys got clobbered.
Eh. I’ve never actually heard the song (I only get to hear Rush a few times a year) so I’m not gonna get into the debate, besides noting that what’s acceptable parody from an entertainer (and Rush, while he does a fair amount of serious political commentary, is still an entertainer) and what’s acceptable coming from a guy who wants to be chairman of the party are two different things.
I assume you think David Ehrenstein is a racist who should be banned from polite company?
You’ve almost made it to 1996 Crank. Just as anyone with a modicum of common sense could tell you Rush was/ is ONLY an entertainer back in 1996, they would also tell you that saying Rush does a fair amount of serious political commentary is a laughable joke s well.
Congratulations again. We eagerly await your arrival to the 21st century.
Berto,
How much do you actually listen to Rush? Be honest.
I’m not big Rush fan or Rush defender, but almost everyone who dismisses him out of hand has also never really listened to him. It’s kind of same with Fox News.
I did it for a class I took back in the 90s. I listened for 2 weeks, which is enough time to know he’s an entertainer paid to carry water for the rich and powerful and to confuse the rubes. (i.e. argues that the homeless and immigrants are stealing your hard earned cash when it’s obvious that the thieves are on Wall St and wear Brooks Brothers suits). Also, his arguments are made by propping-up strawmen and knocking them down. They could NEVER stand any serious debate.
Sure, that was the 90s but I’ve read enough about him since to know he’s still shilling for the rich and powerful. Like Karl Rove, Rush’s ‘genius’ is in making it seem like he actually believes what he says.
My New Year’s Resolution: I will not declare anything offensive if it is either stupid or unfunny.
Please join me.
Here is a better concise summary of the Obama campaign — He Won. Go choke on that for a while.
As a great mind once wrote, “Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot.”
