The Veterans Committee elects the late Ron Santo to the Hall of Fame, almost a year to the day after his death. Here’s my April 2010 column on the great 3B, which rated him #6 all time and unquestionably a worthy inductee.

I’ve always thought that the reason he never got voted in was that there would then be 4 Cubs in the Hall from a team that won nothing. If they had held on in 1969, he walks in 20 years ago.
It’s the same reason Edgar Martinez won’t get in for a good long while, if at all.
I hadn’t read your HBT column previously and was curious as to how you would regard Santo. Your HoF case for him is very persuasive.
One other item in the “who’d a thunk it” column — you and I both considering George Brett as one of our favorite players.
