To no one’s surprise, the Mets have fired Art Howe, but will be asking him to manage out the balance of the season rather than hand the reins to a Moose Stubing-style caretaker. Which is pretty classless, but then, for the money they are paying Howe, he can suck it up.
More [please] later [not] on [Larry] possible [Bowa] replacements.

I hear Jimy Williams is available. Seriously, though, what about Don Baylor? A lot of people thought Houston might pursue him at season’s end, though I imagine they’ll stick with garner now that he’s led them back to the playoff race.
Excellently gratuitous Moose Stubing reference!
He has one of those names, like Stump Merrill or Shooty Babbit, that should be worked into conversations whenever possible
I was more worried about the “Bowa as bench coach” issue if Howe was coming back; that pretty much screamed mid-season firing. Plus, for once (and only once) the undue influence of the players should help – nobody wants to play for Bowa.
Good manager. Hopeless situation Worth evry penny.
