Lip

Yeah, Mike Lupica is just all class:

I’ve mentioned in the past, as a Boston College man, that if Notre Dame can’t hold up its end of this football rivalry, we’re going to have to drop them the way we did Holy Cross. But I was taught to be more generous than that at BC. So we’ll keep playing them, just as long as they understand something: We’re their daddy.

If you read the front end of the column, Lupica is laying the groundwork for his preferred storyline that blames everything on A-Rod, totally absolves Derek Jeter, and makes it out like the Yankees’ ability to import an endless line of superstars is somehow a burden they have to carry. Well, of course.

  1. Crank,
Are you upset at the HC cheapshot? Your boy BSG takes a cheapshot at the Eagles any chance he gets. Us BC Alums put up with more cheap shots than anyone. Dan Shaugnessy (CHB) is a Holy Cross alum who’s never forgiven BC for eclipsing HC in terms of athletics and national attention. And he takes a shot or ten at BC whenever the chance comes his way.
Personally I think playing ND is something that may not be worth it for eather side shortly after. If the Mystique and Aura of ND finish getting washed off this year or next (like the Yankees has been), then it becomes just a regular matchup. For BC they’ll be looking to their always pathetic non-confrence slum drive. Expect a host of barely D1 schools to keep them bowl eligible as they get their lunch money and their girl stolen in the ACC for the next ten or so years.
To quote Pitino: “Doug Flutie is not walking through those doors.” I see next year as a very bad year for the Eagles in terms of W-L, but hey their football revenues should be up.

  2. Crank,
Went to the article to see how he sucked up to Jeter. When I got there I see that he used his column to insult John O’Neill and all the Swift Boat veterans. I can’t believe you didn’t mention that. I sent him a respectful but strongly worded critical email advising him to stick to sports.

  3. Lupica drives me nuts. He’s one of those sports guys, like Bob Ryan or Rick Reilly, that takes themselves way too seriously.
