Of course, this quiz assumes you would want to live in a city, and it also leaves out some important information, like whether the city has a major league baseball team. But it’s true enough that, if I was picking from scratch based just on where I’d rather live, there’s no way I’d live in New York. I don’t make a lot of use of many of the city’s virtues (I’ve only been to a Broadway show once and don’t really go out all that much in Manhattan), and I could really do without the traffic, the commute, and the overall unpleasantness of Manhattan. (In a lot of ways, I’m more of a red-state guy by nature). So why do I live here? Mostly the traditional reasons – family’s here, I grew up outside NYC, and my job is here – the kind of law I practice is hard to do in too many other markets. It also doesn’t hurt to stay where I can follow the Mets (I live about a 15 minutes from Shea). So, home it is.

Wow… we must have similar tastes. My list came up Austin 65, Denver 65, Honolulu 60, Las Vegas 60, Miami 60. But I’m not about to leave Seattle. 🙂
So, is that thing sponsored by the city of Austin or what? It came out Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Honolulu, Philly for me.
Never been to Honolulu or Atlanta, but I’d take Austin except for the heat/humidity in the summer (which should have bumed it down since I chose mild), a gorgeous city.
I miss NYC terribly at times, but it’s more the Park Slope neighborhood thing I miss than Manhattan. Ann Arbor is not a big enough town for me…

I think it’s because Austin is seen as the model of a certain type of city – ironically, it’s one of the places I’d really think about moving to, and it didn’t make my list:
65% Honolulu, 60% Atlanta, 60% Chicago, 55% NYC, 55% Philly
I got Honolulu 75, Los Angeles (!?) 70, Portland 65, Denver 60 and San Diego 60. I have no idea how the LA thing snuck in there. I guess if you put “West” as the area of the country you want to live in it spits that out at some point. Interesting but the questions are so generic.
