I think that election is, in fact, a sign of potential trouble for Republicans in Ohio, but since there are specifically Ohio-related ethical issues involved, I doubt that it is much of a bellweather of the mood of the entire country.
I think that’s right. This appears to have little to do with the national GOP, but possibly a lot to do with the Ohio GOP, which has been frittering away its natural advantages for some time.
When you have 11 (!) candidates in the primary, you tend not to have a united party for the general election. Bunch of people who would otherwise have voted (and almost certainly will in 2006) sat this one out because their guy/gal wasn’t on the ticket.
