The Prince

Watching Prince Fielder run the bases this weekend I can see why it’s a good idea to get him in the majors now as a 21-year-old – generally, fat power hitters end up having a lot of their good years at an early age and slowing down a lot past 30 (think Boog Powell, or Kent Hrbek). Fielder’s already a dangerous power hitter, but the odds of him being a defensive and baserunning disaster 10 years from now are pretty high.

  1. He’s a smaller version of his dad. Let’s hope that he doesn’t have the same bad habits around gambling and such.
He’s got that same form that early Giambi had while in Oakland. You aren’t going to whiff him easily.

  2. I went to Sunday’s game at Shea, and I’ve got to say he’s definitely lost some lbs. since the last time I’d seen him. He seemed like he was much higher on the fat – to – muscle ratio a few years back, and hopefully that’ll grow off of him a bit more. Seeing him swipe second like that made me want to faint, but what can you do.
