As I noted before the last Mets-Braves series, if you shoot at the king, you better kill him. Last time, the Mets got a good first right to the Braves’ jaw, and then got the beating you get when you don’t knock out the bully on the first shot.
They’re learning; tonight, they took the second straight against Atlanta in Turner Field, stretching their division lead to 7 games, still longer than it was at this time in 1986. They face off again tomorrow and for another three games next weekend. The time to go for the jugular and put Atlanta in a hole it hasn’t seen since 1993 is now.

NL East is the Mets’ to lose, already.
2 out of 3, 6-4 on a long road trip is a very good record. Up by 6 in the loss column leaving April is a big hole for everyone else.
I was taking one of my kids home from baseball practice, and asked him, “You are down 8-5, bases loaded, two outs, 8th inning, who do you want up?” He answered, “David Wright.” Who else, I asked. “CArlos Delgado.” Smart kide. Now I asked him, who do you NOT want up? “He answered faster than Wright, “Matsui.”
Kaz did not lose the game of course, but he had a chance to come home tomorrow to a big ovation. He stared history in the face and stepped out for a beer.
I hate to say it but Seamus is right. It’s gotten so bad for the Phillies that I have to root for the Mets to beat the Braves so the Phils can stay in the WC hunt.
