  1. Rumor – I stress its a rumor – out of Houston today is Clemens is retired and will not be pitching this year.
Lights Out Lidge is more like Deer in the Headlights Lidge this year. I dunno what’s up with that. His pitches look the same to my eye. Maybe its just that he’s been thoroughly scouted and people know what to look for (my favorite theory when pitchers start out well and go bad after a couple years). Maybe he’s tipping his pitches, although they swear they’ve studied the tape for this. Maybe its bad luck.
Whatever it is he’s getting hammered this year. Watch for the Astros to package him in an attempt to trade for offense, especially if (counter to rumor) Clemens returns.

  2. Clemens to the Red Sox…it’ll happen. That big jackass is such an ego-maniac he’ll amp it up for one last return to glory in Fenway…go into Cooperstown with a big B on his cap.

  3. Thanks for the hat tip…I’m a big fan of your work here, Mr. Crank.
Great game the other night. Bob Raissman frowned on Hernandez and Cohen sporting the rally caps today in his column, but I don’t think too many Mets fans were disappointed. They’re human, too.

  4. Rally caps definitely won’t help if Willie won’t use Wags in a fairly important tied game in the 9th inning against a slew of lefty hitters, as Randolph did (‘nt) tonight. I’m beginning to see why the Mets underperformed their Pythagenport by six games last year.

  5. Totally agree….Wagner needs to be used in that situation. If Utley is retired, then Wagner pitches against Abreu, Victorino and Howard in the 10th. Then, if the Mets still haven’t scored against the Phils’ so-so bullpen, I’ll take my chances with Bradford, Bell or Julio taking on Aaron Rowand, David Bell and Ruiz. You have a $43 million dollar left-handed closer for a reason. With a fresh bullpen after the day off, there’s no reason to wait for the lead in that situation. Very poor managing.
