You know, I’m not ready to conclude that Billy Wagner was a bad signing for the Mets, who needed a better closer than Braden Looper. But as I argued last fall, it’s now clear that BJ Ryan was a better signing.

Yup. For age, and injury history if nothing else. It’s pretty clear Wagner is a player on the decline. That’s not to say he can’t dominate or that closers are done by the time they are in their 30s, but Ryan didn’t cost that much more…
