Breaking: 7 Arrested in Sears Tower Terror Plot

Another terror plot foiled:

Seven people were arrested Thursday in connection with the early stages of a plot to attack Chicago’s Sears Tower and other buildings in the U.S., a federal law enforcement official said.

The official told The Associated Press the alleged plotters were mainly Americans with no apparent ties to al-Qaida or other foreign terrorist organizations. He spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to pre-empt news conferences planned for Friday in Washington and Miami.

More to follow tomorrow.

  1. I sure hope they didn’t also find out about these poor souls and their plans by secretly listening in on their conversations with terrorist cells overseas.

  2. Perfect example of why the courts are moving in the right direction by giving law enforcement more lattitude in pursuing bad guys of all types.

  3. The headline in the Times, and everywhere else says it all: that bank transactions are being monitored. I’m not crazy about the phone monitoring, as it probably yields little, and is, let’s face it, very intrusive. I like less the lack of warrants in FISA, even when they can be retroactive. But terror, like organized crime, which is really just localized terror, has a common thread: follow the money, follow the money, follow the money.
Now if the morons at the State Department can get their act together and hire some real Arabic speakers (like the NYPD -the best model of a counter terrorist organization there is) instead of wanting the perfect people who are born and live here, are straight (yes they mandate that), and are probably not named Hamed, we might see more of this.
