Yet Another 2008 GOP Poll

Sorry for the lack of content generally and baseball content in particular of late – been busy. In the meantime, go vote – this one’s a little different angle. I could live with Rudy, McCain, Allen, Romney and Brownback:

  1. Guiliani, who would also win most liberals vote I think (not the hyper left, but I don’t think a Brownback or Steven sepublican would really like Rudy either), wins big so far. No surprise. Like Reagan with the US, he proved the Big Apple could be tamed.
His biggest downside is that he really wants all the credit; Truman and Reagan both knew if you do your job well, the credit flows to you anyway, so why worry about it?

  2. Viewing the current landscape, I still like Allen. Guiliani is a recognized name and therefore gets a lot of votes, but he will not carry the Midwest. What the GOP has to remember is that while winning NY and CA are desireable (but not likely) no candidate can win without strong support in the midwest and south.

  3. 1 Rudy Giuliani
    2 George Allen
    3 Sam Brownback
    4 Newt Gingrich
    5 John McCain
    6 Mitt Romney
    7 Mike Huckabee
    8 George Pataki
    9 Tom Tancredo
    10 Bill Frist
    11 Chuck Hagel
I don’t know much about Romney or Huckabee. I really do not care for Pataki and Frist. Tancredo has turned me off demagoging the immigration issue. I wouldn’t vote for Hagel for dog catcher.
I’ve always liked Rudy G. I think he could get religious cons to vote for him with a commitment to appoint Roberts/Alito type judges.

  4. So, do they count us lefty trolls or not? Of course, I’m hoping for a Giuliani nomination that drives the religious conservatives off. I suppose I should be rooting for an ultra-right guy that pushes McCain into a third-party run, but I really doubt he’ll do it. (Now, the Mike Bloomberg third-party idea, that I could honestly get behind. Hey, look what had to happen for him to win the Mayor’s race. Maybe somebody up there likes him.)
