  1. I have several friends who escaped from Iran after the downfall of the Shah. It wasn’t a good thing to be Jewish in Iran after tht. They left with nothing, and, being the good Americans they now are, built themselves into prosperity. They blame Carter for his arm twisting of the Shah for the descent of Iran (iwhat is the word when yo go back in time a millenia? Asimov called it moving downwhen).
I’m n ot sure if Carter created the mess, I doubt it, but I have no issue with those who claim he sped it up and facilitated it. I don’t like Bush, and I do think history will treat him harshly, but I doubt I ever saw anyone as incompetent at Carter there. Many claim Buchanan was worse-as a governor he certainly was, as President, I’m not so sure.

  2. The worst sitting president and the worst ex-president. I can’t wait until his face is on a postage stamp – if you get my drift.

  3. Jimmy Carter’s fecklessness gave us the Ayotollah, which led to Islamic Fundmentalism-or, rather, the Ayotollahs were the embodiment of that fundamentalism, now no longer in check because of Carter’s ineptitude and ideological waywardness.
No President hurt America more than Carter. Not even Buchanan and Pierce. The Civil War probably would’ve happened regardless of B and P’s screwups and chicanery (Buchanan had much to do with the lamentable Dred Scott decision), but Carter could’ve supported the Shah and kept him in power.
The truth was Carter and the State Department were at odds here, and Carter was never decisive enough to say the US would support the Shah regardless.
