I have to say that I found the article kind of unfulfilling. The only reason why Barnes says these 5 people became pro-life is: “All of us, because of the circumstances we found ourselves in, were forced to think about the taking of a life and what that means in both practical and moral terms. Most people avoid thinking about troubling moral issues like abortion or euthanasia.” Basically, just thinking about the issue made him become pro-life. I think this is an unsatisfying argument. Whether pro-life or pro-choice, I just don’t find it a very enlightening article.
I came away with a different impression of the article. The point I got (and that I think he was trying to make) is that it is easy to be indifferent to the issue or even pro-choice without giving serious thought to the moral issues. Myself as a young man fell into the camp of not caring. However, as I matured and actually thought about what is really taking place I had no choice but to be opposed to the process of infanticide.
