  1. Not to minimize Ms. Edwards health issues in any way, but if anyone thought this was anything other than a campaign energizer they just weren’t paying attention.

  2. I expect this from every single politician sadly. Something is clearly out of joint when fund raising becomes not only a headline but the only way to run for president.
Look for Fred Thompson in the fall. If he doesn’t get it, Bloomberg might just gear up for his own indy campaign. And this time I think everyone is getting very fed up with the whole mess.

  3. Fundraising is important, but it’s not the whole ballgame and seems to me, at least, to be less important than it was 10-12 years ago. End of the day there will be 3 candidates on each side who will have enough money to compete full-out and probably 1 or 2 who at least have the money to stay visible and get a share of the votes, and both nominees will have plenty of money.
I actually think the current GOP frontrunners are already a deterrent to a Bloomberg run – I mean, what rationale is there for Bloomberg to go 3d party against Rudy?

  4. will I get invited to their spread in Chapel Hill, I want to figure out if it is larger than The Breakers?

  5. Bloomberg may run, never under estimate the ego of a billionaire. But where does he attract voters? he is a Dem in all but registration. They have candidates. He is an anti Libertarian, usual source for Indy runs. He is a Dem, where does he attract Rep votes? It would be an awesome sight to see, his expenditures per votes would boggle the mind. That would be a great O/U for tradesports.

  6. When President Failure stops using 9/11 and the death of thousands of US soldiers for political purposes, then I’ll give a tinker’s dam what Edwards does.

  7. Very enlightened, “Sowhat?”
Perhaps that’s why President Bush’s approval ratings are in the tank…becuase he’s been using 9/11 and the deaths of soldiers for political purposes (you can’t get away from the Bush “look at the dead soldiers” ad campaigns either, huh?). And until the color of the world that you live in, where Bush is using 9/11 for political purposes – something people who don’t frequent the dailykos haven’t witnessed very much – changes, you don’t care what anyone else does.
    Deep.

  8. Yeah, I know “instafaggt” (you guys are soooo cute with your anonymous handles. It’s almost as if you try to present the notion that you’re too cowardly to state upfront in a comments section what we all know you lack the guts to state publicly)….Bush was just parading around yesterday using the deaths of soldiers to pimp his policies, and climbed back atop the pile of rubble with a bullhorn in order to fundraise for the GOP.
Ten bucks says you got here via Sullivan, btw.
