Good Start

Top of the sixth in Florida.
Mets, 8 runs, all charged to Dontrelle Willis, who was left in to finish the 5th even after allowing the last two runs.
Marlins, 0 hits.
UPDATE: John Maine pitches the sixth inning, Marlins’ hit total does not change. Maine has thrown 85 pitches.
UPDATE: Miguel Cabrera leads off the seventh with a hit. 45 years later, the Mets still have never had a no-hitter.

  1. Maine has certainly impressed thus far. Interesting discussion on the SNY broadcast last night, with Keith talking about how Peterson is helping Maine throw better pitches lower in the zone. Unfortunately, Darling wasn’t around. Maine was indeed snapping ’em off at the knees last night.

  2. I know its early and he went down last year but this is Jonathan Papelbon’s line so far this year.
    5.1 IP, .059 BA, 1BB, 11Ks, 4 saves
What did he go for in fantasy leagues?

  3. FWIW, Maine got hosed on what should have been a called strike three to Cabrera. That said, he was clearly running out of gas, and didn’t have enough to keep the no-no intact.

  4. And this aborted no-no came at the home stadium of a team that’s had a bunch in its short history.
(Not to mention those two championships. Man, has a fan base ever gotten so much more than it derserved so easily?)
