  1. I, like everyone else, gave the Mariners little chance at the start of the season. Like everyone else I derided Bavasi’s signing of Jeff Weaver as well as some of the other acquisitions. Now Weaver is pitching lights out and the team is playing great baseball. I still don’t see how they are anywhere as good as the Angels, but I certainly have egg on my face at this point.

  2. Weaver may be pitching well now, but he’s still got a ways to go until he’s a positive for the season. And that negative performance cost the team oodles of money. Go with your first instinct.

  3. here’s the deal. There’s one impressive thing about that seattle excuse for an American league team (one which plays and approaches the game like a national league ie AAAA team). They somehow play the sox well. sadly, the Red Sox (g00d sox) rarely deploy the full and undenaiably impressive “first string” if you will, lineup against those fisherman. other than that, all you can say for that franchise is that individual players care and some play well(ichiro is great and should immigrate to the more baseball oriented, more baseball driven coast.)…and that the other players often form a roster that can, on many given exxhibition gamedays, rival there league competetors
