[O]nly 23% of his 93 attempts have come when the Mets were either ahead or behind by more than two runs. Sixty-eight percent of the time, he’s run when the Mets were tied, up one, or down one, and he’s 19 for 23 in the latter two situations — the most crucial in the game.

And yet this can be deceiving, as Reyes stole 2 bases of marginal utility with the game tied today (Mets got 2 runs with fast lead runners out of a S-S-BB-S sequence, with 3 steals thrown in that really didn’t add anything) and got thrown out twice when the Mets were up 2 (including making the 3rd out to end an inning with a runner on) in a game they ultimately lost by 2. Anytime you turn three straight one out walks into 2 CS-inning over that’s a big loss.
17 baserunners, 3 runs, in no small part to 4 of them being thrown out on the bases.
