  1. Jayson Stark: “Sources: Mets likely won’t reach deal with Santana until Friday, if at all”
Anybody getting nervous yet? More than half the 72-hour window is already over. I said it Tuesday and I’ll say it again – I am not believing the trade until I see Santana pull on the Mets jersey at the press conference.

  2. Give Santana whatever he wants. The Mets need this badly. Letting Santana slip away will be like trading Seaver.

  3. In this kind of negotiation, it’s not really in either side’s interest to strike a deal until the last minute. I think both parties are best served by getting it done, so I expect they will.

  4. Steve, I can tell you are young. To those of us who were there, when that drunken lying weasel Dick Young began his campaign to get rid of Seaver, and M. Donald Grant, who took credit for George Weiss building that team, actually did the dirty deed, I knew how Dodger fans felt in 1957. Or how England felt when it lost India (credit I think John Underwood for that line).
But don’t worry, I don’t get emotional on the subject.
