Mets Open Thread

I don’t have that much to add to last night’s couldn’t-be-any-better victory except to say that, as good as it was to have Duaner Sanchez back, there just isn’t anything more encouraging for the organization right now than having Mike Pelfrey throw 7 shutout innings.

  1. Who’d have thunk that, after the injuries to Duque and Pedro, the Mets would get such nice starts from their replacements. If I were to rank the starters in order of my confidence in them (most to least), I’d say:
    1. Figueroa
    2. Pelfrey
    3. Maine
    4. Perez
    5. Santana
OK, I’m kidding. But still, who knows when either Pedro or Duque will come back, so getting quality out of Figueroa and Pelfrey is crucial. We don’t need another round of searching for guys like Jose Lima.
Now, if Reyes can keep hitting like he did last night…

  2. Last night was as perfect a win as the Mets have had for a long, long time. Ignoring the LOB, it was just great for all the reasons you mentioned, and also because Reyes was getting back into the groove. I’m still annoyed by the boo-birds getting on Heilman in the 8th in a 4-0 game. But otherwise, it was nice to see.

  3. Actually, the Sunday game was a good one. Weird of course, but if you put 7 runs on the board and hit into all those double plays, in the long run, all those guys on base will come in.
