The Pain In Maine’s Is Mainly A Strain

Diagnosis for John Maine after his MRI, as just reported on WFAN: mild strain of the rotator cuff. The “mild” part is good; the “rotator cuff” part is not. Hopefully this can be treated with a little rest – Maine’s supposed to rejoin the team shortly. But the Mets should take this one more carefully than they did with Ryan Church’s head injuries.
PS – In case I don’t get to it in more detail, the Mark-Teixeira-to-the-Angels deal is huge on several levels…definitely comes as close as a deal like this can to locking down the AL West for the Angels, clearly signals that the Braves have given up (not irrationally), and puts the Angels in the drivers’ seat to sign Tex and keep him off the market, which is bad news for teams like the Mets and Yankees that have big-ticket 1B coming to the end of their contracts.

  1. I don’t want Teixera or any other Boras clients on the team. He is as bad as the DH or plastic grass.

  2. It’s amazing that the best starters on this team right now are Ollie Perez and Mike Pelfrey – and that’s a good thing.
Maybe they can bring up El Duque…

    ???
{Whispering} Aincha’ heard of this “Santana” fella?

  4. Given the Mets’ tendency to vastly under-report injuries (just ask Angel Pagan), I worry that “mild strain” really means “partial tear” or something. The Mets front office already lies like a rug; put them in close proximity to the trading deadline and they could probably make Joe Isuzu blush.

  5. What era do we live in that the Angels get Texiera and the Yankees get Richie Sexson (who, after watching him “hit” against Boston over the weekend, I am no longer the least bit worried about)?

  6. Well Pudge makes the Texiera thing a little easier to swallow. We can get some great production out of the catcher position and the platoon of Giambi and Sexson should give some good numbers. Plus give a big bat off the bench. Pudge is playing for a contract and will be giving it his best shot. Now if the Sox are stupid enough to trade Manny, things will really be looking up.
Where in the world is Omar?

  7. If Teixeira files for free agency in three months don’t look for a NY team to be the front runner to sign him. Peter Angelos is probably ready to drop ARod bucks to bring Mark back home to Baltimore.
