I probably can’t summarize the Mets’ frustrations this season better than these two facts:
1. The Mets have a team OBP of .362. (The club record is .361 in 1999, the only Mets team above .346).
2. The Mets are 7th in the National League in runs scored.
Partly that reflects more GIDP than usual, but mostly it reflects a combination of very high-scoring conditions and poor hitting with men on base, especially for power.

It’s amazing tht David Wright has only 1 HR and 7 RBI after 19 games. That’s the same as Daniel Murphy and Jose Reyes, and worse than Ryan Church.
I supppose it doesn’t help when you are tied for the league lead in strikeouts. Yikes.
Or, to look at it another way, David Wright has mostly had a terrible time at the plate so far, as he usually does at some point every year, and still he hasn’t wrecked his season over it. He’s batting something like .285, OBP of .365 or thereabouts.
He will turn it around.
DD – Agreed. I’m only citing these figures to show what’s been wrong so far.
It would be interesting to go through a list of Struggling Stars/Superstars and give an indication of who bounces back and who doesn’t:
Teixeira, Ortiz, Wright, Holliday, Wang, Uggla, Fielder, Navarro, Upton, Ordonez, Granderson, Verlander, Liriano, Sabbathia and Guerrero are all off to horrible starts. Who’s coming back and who is shot?
I think most of those guys (and others, like Jimmy Rollins and his .231 OBP) are going to bounce back. But I’d say Wright is among the safest bets of all.
