Fun Poll Question of the Day

Only 58% of Hispanics in New Jersey are certain that Barack Obama is not the Anti-Christ.
UPDATE: Allahpundit, looking at the same poll, notes that 9/11 Trutherism is about exactly as prevalent among Democrats as the Birther stuff is on the GOP side. Which is consistent with years of polling on Trutherism, I should add; it’s not just this one PPP New Jersey poll. And which is worrisome, since while both are basically fringe ideas, the baroque conspiracy and nefarious motives one has to believe in are much greater on the 9/11 Truther side than in the case of a coverup of the location of one man’s birth. (And the 9/11 Truthers have a significant overlap with the Trig Truthers).

  1. I assume (hope) this is the result of how the question was worded. I’d say I’m fairly sure he is not the anit-Christ. However, if the question said are you 100% certain beyond any doubt . . . . . then???
I’m 99.999% certain that Elvis and Michael Jackson are both dead. There is that .001% chance they are both working at a grocery store in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

  2. I would have to believe that the real Anti-Christ would be a lot more competent and have actual leadership skills.

  3. Between the Birthers and the Truthers I’m fairly convinced that most of these people are just messing with the pollsters.

  4. I don’t need a poll to tell me that a significant number of registered Democrats and Republicans are nuts.

  5. Last week, on 9/11, I got into with some truther scumbags by Ground Zero. I compare them and the insanity that they spew, at the place and on the anniversary where my friends and 2800 other people were murdered to be akin to Holocaust deniers protesting at Auschwitz. F them, and I really hope they have a long lingering and painful deaths. They are pieces of garbage and should be actively treated as such.

  6. I usually make a single point I make to the occasional truther whom I’m unfortunate enough to run into.
9/11 occurred less than 8 months into Bush’s 1st term. Any government conspiracy that may have been behind it would have had have begun under the Clinton Administration. If you truly think that Clinton and Bush worked together to cause the 9/11 attacks, then you are far beyond the bounds of reality.

  7. According to biblical accounts, Obama is unlikely to be the Anti-Christ, however, that doesn’t change the fact that he is not good for the USA or the world.

  8. Hey dch,
Notice how the President on 9/11/01 (George W. Bush) was against the creation of the 9/11 Commission? Did you also notice how he stonewalled and underfunded the 9/11 Commission and then when his NSA Secretary bald-faced lied to it he made her his Secretary of State?
Yup, I don’t think 9/11 is important either. Only 9/11 Truthers think that 9/11/2001 is important. The rest of us know 9/11 is just a joke and that those who think it’s important are clowns. .
I’m glad real Patriots like you (and me) know that those who whine about 9/11, like the naive Crank, are just clowns who don’t understand anything about protecting our corporations.

  9. The WTC was not imploded and it was passenger planes, with windows, that hit the Towers-I know the second since I actually touched, moved and saw parts of the passenger plane when volunteering there. Those are the two main truther accusations-oh yeah and steel when exposed to extreme heat doesn’t lose its strength. Oh yeah when you knock out hundreds of load bearing steel beams on an incredibly large office building the incredible weight bearing down from above has no effect on the remaining steel beams.
The 9/11 truthers are the usual trust fund revolutionaries who have to do mental gymnastics every time to figure out how to blame things on the US Government. They are loathsome scumbags.
If he was against it-then why did he approve it? BTW- what executive anywhere wants people taking over stuff that is part of their turf. Also do you happen to remember how the person who was actually responsible during the Clinton Admin for creating the wall between intelligence and law enforcement was part of the panel? Stonewalled the panel-according to who? I have read the reports and no such claim was made by the Commission. Condi Rice lied?-According to who-I am sure her lies were like alll the imaginary lies that you people have been conjuring up for the last 8 years.

  10. I think the same thing as Andrew. This has to be people messing with the polls, right? If some idiot called me up at home some night I’d probably give ridiculous answers as well — in fact I know I would.

  11. The key word in that sentence is “certain.” Certain means knowing something with 100% conviction or knowledge. If you believe in an anti-christ, and are asked if you are “certain” the most powerful man in the world is NOT the anti-christ, then I understand perfectly why someone would say “no, I’m not certain”, whether it’s Obama, McCain, Bush, Clinton, anyone who is POTUS.
And no, I personally don’t think Obama is the anti-christ.

  12. per 14 makes a good point about the poll questions. According to the article to which Crank linked, the 9/11 question asked whether the US had “advance knowledge” of the attacks, a terribly ambiguos question.
Nevertheless, I suspect that the fringes of the left and the right are equally populated.

  13. Hogwash. There is no way “birthers” are as prevalent on the right as “truthers” are on the left. At least 25% of the Democratic Party is still infected by the belief that Bush was behind 9/11, which has to be ten times the number of those in the GOP who imagine Obama is hiding something wrt his birth certificate. Truthers are so common in the entertainment industry that cockroaches like Rosie O’Donnell and Charlie Sheen make tens of millions despite their clearly deranged rantings. Can you imagine somebody like Jay Leno getting on a soapbox about Obama not really being an American, and then keeping his job at NBC? Of course not, because he’d be out the door before his first commercial break should he even aim a joke in that direction, and everybody in the biz knows it. The popular FX drama “Rescue Me” devotes an entire episode to truther mythology in order to appease one of it’s left-wing stars. But I’m sure if a conservative actor on 24 or NCIS asked for a script taking aim at some President’s rumored phony birth certificate the networks and show runners would get right on it, yes sir. Right? Right.
Sell that monkey grease someplace else.

  14. Brainless, oh sorry, ShoelessJoe,
Let’s see a cite to your 25% figure. Facts can be difficult things can’t they?

  15. dch,
Condi told the Commission there was “nothing about the threat of attack in the U.S.” in the August 6, 2001 Presidential Daily Briefing. At the time she made the statement, the briefing had not been released to the public.
Of course the title of that briefing was “Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States”.
The fact that someone with your awesome ability to close your eyes, stick you fingers in your ears, and repeat the words “I can’t hear you” at the top of your lungs missed it isn’t the least bit surprising.
