Black Gold, Mosul T, Kirkuk Crude

There may be a lot more oil in Iraq than previously thought. (Via Drudge). That could be very bad news for severely oil-dependent economies like Iran and Venezuela, and good news for the free government and people of Iraq:

Iraq could hold almost twice as much oil in its reserves as had been thought, according to the most comprehensive independent study of its resources since the US-led invasion in 2003.
The potential presence of a further 100bn barrels in the western desert highlights the opportunity for Iraq to be one of the world’s biggest oil suppliers, and its attractions for international oil companies – if the conflict in the country can be resolved.
If confirmed, it would raise Iraq from the world’s third largest source of oil reserves with 116bn barrels to second place, behind Saudi Arabia and overtaking Iran.

  1. The free people of Iraq? What the hell are you talking about? Conditions there are hellish. A few elections do not make the people free.

  2. The conditions in Iraq are anything but hellish everywhere except Bagdhdad. If the news media would pack up and go home it would quickly clear up there to. It is all a show to get on the evening news. Talk to people who have been there, outside of Baghdad, Shite, Sunni and Christians live side-by-side like they have for centuries with no problems.
The US military and our allies have done an outstanding job of rebuilding Iraq and giving the Iraqi people a chance to live free. We have built or rebuilt schools, hospitals, roads and bridges all over the country.
When you the last time you heard of organized conflict? That is because the enemy his determined they they can not defeat the US military. At the point the only chance of our not being successful in Iraq comes from our lack of will. Are we going to allow the to become another Vietnam? Are we going to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory?
