Does anyone know any Black Republicans? I love when the RNC trots out their people of color and females for photo ops, when the whole reason the party lost was their inability to draw anything but wealthy Whites and poor, Southern Whites.
I’m sure Steele will sell the Party to Blacks in droves…not!
Anybody who thinks its pure coincidence that Palin and Steele were selected for their positions is truly drinking Republican koolaid. They blow off non white males for a couple hundred years, then in the face of Obama and Hillary’s votegetting power choose the right “demographic” all of a sudden. In the end its good for the Republican party in the long run because it paves the way for a truly inclusive party, but let nobody act as if its not cynicism at the highest level.
Yeah, and its not that far a move forward, considering the all white country club guy was only 14 votes behind Steele. Conservatives stand around dumbfounded over their inability to attract blacks, hispanics, asians etc at the same time they back someone like Dawson.
Blacks have good reason to be hard sells in terms of post-Reagan conservative ideology, since only a muscular and intrusive federal government was able to free them from oppresive local governments. The GOP does need to be able to attract the votes of women and non-whites, and it also needs to stay mostly conservative or risk losing it’s purpose, but it’s not going to make a lot of progress with African-Americans anytime soon.
Always fascinating listening to lefties define Republicans. The echo chamber you people live in is fascinating.
In case you didn’t notice you won 53% of the vote with everything going your way-not 63%, 73% or 83%. In case you didn’t notice the Republican party ran congress from 1994 -2006, lost the last 2 cycles and will now pick up seats in the next couple of elections. Its one week into a Democratic admin-and the projected budget deficits are going to dwarf anything before them, massive expansion of welfare,Obama is already showing weakness to Russia and Iran and now is talking about slashing military spending-none of these things were things he ran on or that his buddies in the media told the public. Its also fascinating listening to lefties develop their usual amnesia about how the Democratic Party was the party of slavery, jim crow, segregation and the Klan.

well, it was formed as an anti-slavery party to counteract the Democratic Party and if Robert checks his history, he’ll discover that the first blacks elected to Congress were Republicans
…and I’ll state that it isn’t a coincidence that the more Republican the South became, the more color-blind it became too….unless you want to argue that the South is more intolerant today than back in the days when Democrats like George Wallace and Orval Faubus were running the show down there.
Yes, the important thing to remember here is that Michael Steele is the “wrong” kind of black man. Not like Obama, who is the “right” kind. We wouldn’t have had true racial progress if the “wrong” kind were in office today.

Lefties can pretend to have inside information into how this decision was reached, but obviously they have no clue. There were 6 or 7 candidates. Each would bring different set of skills (marketing, internet, outreach, etc) to the job. Personally, I backed Ken Blackwell, having known him since he was first elected to city council in Cincinnati. He much more closely matches my position on the role of government. However, I’m honest enough to recognize he isn’t the best at selling the ideas. Steele’s big advantage over the others was his ability to go on TV and explain our positions. Too many of these guys get in front of the camera and stammer or look terrified of making a mistake. Steele looked comfortable on TV and a big part of this job is being the public face of the party.
And already at Redstate they are suggesting there is a tension between minority outreach and conservative “principles” as they catuiously exhort Steele on. Steele mind you, was never the conservatives’ choice.
