I’ve added a direct link in the Reference Desk to the Electoral College Map (provided by Edwardsforprez) that’s featured over at Daily Kos; it’s a wonderful resource. But I ran the numbers with Bush holding all his 2000 states except New Hampshire and Nevada, and I came up with . . . a 269-269 tie. Is that possible? I’ll have to check the math.

I just saw someone else come up with the same tie. I believe its absolutely possible. If that’s the case I believe it goes to the Senate, where Dick Cheney’s vote can cut out his middle-man Scalia and he can directly install himself back into power.
Watch them replace Cheney on the Republican ticket with a more affable, less conflicted Veep candidate. Tought he’d still have his Senate seat to cast his vote for Bush.

If there were a 269-269 tie, the vote would actually move to the House, not the Senate. All 435 reps choose a candidate and each state gets one vote, which is determined by a majority of that state’s representatives. (If a state’s reps’ vote is tied, that state’s one vote is not cast.) The candidate who gets a majority of the states’ votes then becomes president. If no candidate gets 26 votes, further balloting is done until there’s a winner.
